A power nap is a short, usually, 20-30 minute, sleep taken during the day. Power naps can help improve mood, increase alertness, and boost productivity. Though power naps are generally considered safe, it is important to not overdo them as too much sleep during the day can lead to insomnia at night. The best time for a power nap is generally in the early afternoon, around 2:00 or 3:00 PM. This is because our natural body clock, or circadian rhythm, starts to dip in the late morning and early afternoon. Taking a power nap at this time can help to reenergize the body and mind. To get the most out of power naps, it is important to find a comfortable place to lie down and relax. It is also helpful to set an alarm so that you do not sleep for too long. Once you are ready to sleep, close your eyes and focus on deep, slow breathing. If you have trouble falling asleep, try counting backward from 100 or listening to calming music.
